    Learn fermentation principles and engineering fundamentals of growing recombinant microorganisms in a bioreactor to express therapeutic proteins. Gain fundamental understanding of the relationship between process design and product quality. Engage in hands-on pilot-scale laboratory experiences that define and explore the critical control parameters required to achieve a robust fermentation process.

    Attend and you will learn

    • How microbial cells grow and express product
    • The critical components of an industrial bioreactor
    • How to determine critical control parameters for your process
    • The importance of mixing and aeration
    • How to experimentally determine the mass transfer coefficient
    • Automation and control including Process Analytical technology (PAT) and FT-NIR
    • How to determine yield and productivity
    • What to look for during scale-up
    • The proper methods to clean and sterilize fermentation equipment

    Who should attend

    Those seeking a more advanced hands-on course on the engineering aspects of fermentation, for example:

    • Experienced fermentation supervisors and/or managers looking to build engineering skills
    • Scientists with experience in other biomanufacturing areas, such as validation, quality assurance, and R&D
    • Individuals who hold engineering degrees but have limited hands-on experience in biotechnology or fermentation
