Description
In this three-day, hands-on course, you will learn the fundamental mechanisms governing both protein precipitation and crystallization, methods for characterizing protein stability and aggregation/crystallization, and strategies to develop appropriate processing conditions. The implementation of semi-continuous and continuous operations and equipment for precipitation and crystallization will also be covered.
Protein precipitation and crystallization are fast becoming alternative processes to traditional product purification steps like chromatography in the biomanufacturing arena. This course will examine the underlying principles of protein stability as well as protein precipitation and crystallization. Additionally, participants will learn how variations in process parameters will affect yield, purity, and efficiency using these techniques. Process implementation of these methods as semi-continuous or continuous operations will be discussed. Finally, attendees will be introduced to analytical instrumentation that can be used to characterize protein stability, precipitation, and crystallization, including a fluorescence-based thermal shift assay, dynamic and static light scattering, scanning electron microscopy, and zeta-potential.
