BTEC Automation and Process Control of Yeast Fermentation Course

Description

In this four-day, hands-on course, you will gain familiarity with and applied insight into the functionality of control equipment and instrumentation, and how process data from a model yeast fermentation is used to ensure a quality product. Participants will work with traditional sensors, a PAT soft sensor, and multivariate data analysis (MVDA) to monitor, model, and control the process.

This course will give professionals with experience in fermentation an in-depth introduction to process instrumentation and integrating operation with a process control system. Professionals will learn how process information is communicated and used for different engineering controls, including PID control, split-range control, and cascade control with the DeltaV distributed control system. A Raman spectral sensor and PLS model will also be deployed for process monitoring and control to familiarize participants with implementing Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in an upstream process. Participants will gain hands-on experience in using data analytics software to build a soft sensor model for metabolite monitoring and will use historical process data to build a real-time predictive model to monitor batch quality in real-time.
